Productized integrations are wonderful when you need to connect your app to the CRM that all 250 of your customers use. But what about the hundreds of one-off systems that those same customers have? If you take those on, they can quickly become an engineering headache, without helping you move your product forward. Your customers know their needs best, so why not enable them to build whatever integrations they want?
That's why, last year, we introduced what we initially called the embedded designer.
Since then, we've had several customers implement it, and we've continued to learn and adjust as our original ideas were tested by our customers and their customers.
Based on everything we've learned, we are taking this tool (now the embedded workflow builder) in a substantially improved direction to provide greater value to more customers. This builds on the foundation we established last summer, providing a more detailed managed experience for companies seeking to enable their customers to create custom integrations.
These improvements include:
- Better workflow enablement
- Reduced deployment friction
- Simplified user experience
Our primary goal (enabling our customers to provide integrations between their products and the other apps their customers use) has not changed. Instead, this improved functionality underscores our continued commitment to creating an unmatched integration-building experience for our customers as their needs evolve to meet an ever-changing market.
We'll be sharing more details in the coming weeks and months, but here are some of the new benefits and functionality provided by our embedded workflow builder:
- Straightforward workflow building – Your customers can configure connections and data sources inline as part of setting up a step action. As a result, they'll no longer need to work their way through the configuration wizard.
- One-click publishing – Your customers can enable workflows instantly without needing to go through any additional steps for adding them to the marketplace or configuring them as an instance.
- Clearer error management – Your customers can view all errors within a single Status menu. No more searching various places within the design area to find out what's not working
- Safe exploration – Your customers can view any workflow via a new read-only mode, ensuring that they don't inadvertently edit the workflow.
- Consolidated inputs – Your customers no longer need to figure out the difference between Text, Config Variable, Reference, or Template inputs. Every input can use the flexibility of a template or data source (if provided by the underlying component).
Existing customers who are using our embedded designer may continue to use that existing functionality but also have the option of upgrading to the new embedded workflow builder at no additional charge.
